Shopify Invoice Tax Details for Pakistan
A useful invoice must satisfy current legal requirements and remain understandable to customers, accounts and support. Shopify’s default order page is not automatically a tax invoice.
Seller and invoice identity
Use the registered person’s legal name, registration details and business address required by current law—not only the Shopify brand name. Preserve invoice date, merchant reference and the returned FBR invoice number as distinct fields.
Buyer details
Use the approved billing or supply address rule and record buyer registration status accurately. Do not infer registration from a company field or expose unnecessary personal data.
Item and tax breakdown
Show understandable descriptions, quantity, unit, value, discount and tax. Behind the document, retain HS code, rate, sale type and relevant SRO or schedule mapping required by the current FBR payload and approved by your adviser.
FBR verification elements
For accepted digital invoices, follow the current FBR technical specification for the FBR number, Digital Invoicing System logo and QR code. Test printed and PDF output for scan reliability.
Corrections and retention
Regenerate documents from the accepted invoice snapshot, not a later-edited Shopify order. Apply STGO 01 of 2026 and section 9 debit or credit-note rules only with advice appropriate to the event.
Commercial detail should remain readable
FBR codes do not replace a clear customer description. Show the product or service in language the buyer recognizes, along with quantity, unit price, allocated discount, shipping where relevant and payable total. Keep internal SKU or Shopify references when they help support, but do not expose sensitive operational notes.
For multi-line orders, make the tax breakdown traceable to each line or an unambiguous summary. Test rounding at line and invoice level. If the customer paid a tax-inclusive price, the displayed calculation should reconcile to that price using the adviser-approved method.
Separate data source from presentation
Store a normalized invoice snapshot containing the accepted seller, buyer, line, tax and FBR response data. Render HTML, PDF, email and print versions from that snapshot. This prevents a later Shopify product-title edit or address correction from changing an old tax document.
Version the template independently from the invoice data. A new logo or layout can be used for future documents while the team remains able to reproduce what was issued previously. Record the template version and generation time.
Run a pre-launch invoice review
Have the adviser inspect the legal and tax particulars, accounts recalculate totals, operations match the document to a real fulfilment, and support read it as a customer would. Include registered and unregistered buyers, discounts, shipping, prepaid and COD cases.
Check the current Sales Tax Act, Sales Tax Rules, S.R.O. 69(I)/2025 framework and matching FBR technical specification rather than relying on a generic invoice template. Requirements and implementation guidance can change.
